By Arielle Haynes, Seminole Student Booster President Tallahassee is more than just the State’s Capital. Florida State University is more than just a college. Together this town and college make up a community that is strong and rich in tradition. The center point of commerce in the panhandle, Tallahassee was established as the place of, well, unity. Florida State, with it’s colonial diplomat ties, lives in brick and mortar, seasoned oaks and enduring voices; in a legacy of excellence. The TRUE Seminole Campaign, initiated by Seminole Student Boosters in 2007, is an University sponsored effort to unite the entire Seminole community, lead by prominent ambassadors, the students of Florida State.
TRUE Seminole, which stands for Tradition Respect Unity and Excellence, consists of a few programs, most notably a Tee Shirt sale which, in two years, has raised over $150,000. The TRUE Pride Tee (available at FSU retail stores) is the Official Football Game Day T-shirt. Proceeds directly benefit an athletic scholarship endowment fund and students who exemplify the TRUE meaning of representing the University, through a gift to Student Government. Read More
Seminole Booster Staff Writers Charlie Barnes Charlie Barnes joined Seminole Boosters, Inc in 1978. Both he and his wife Connie are alumni of Florida State. Charlie writes for Unconqueredmagazine as well as for the Florida State Times, conducts the annual Bobby Bowden Tour and is the official host for Booster events. He is an Army veteran and past President and Chairman of the Board of Capital Tiger Bay.
Joel Padgett Joel Padgett joined the Seminole Boosters, Inc. in 1995. He is an alumnus of Florida State with B.S. in Criminology. He served as the WPB Area Chairman for the Seminole Boosters, was a member of the Seminole Booster Board of Directors and Tri-County TEC. Joel writes for the Unconquered magazine and his articles focus on Gift Planning.

FSU star Yamaguchi named best in nation By Ira Schoffel Mami Yamaguchi helped lift Florida State’s soccer program to new heights this season, leading the Seminoles to their first appearance in the NCAA national championship game.For that, and for her incredible scoring exploits, Yamaguchi recently received the MAC Hermann Trophy, presented annually to the nation’s top female player in NCAA Division-I soccer. Yamaguchi, a native of Tokyo, Japan, led the nation in points this season with 66, and she finished second in goals scored (24) and assists (18). Read more
Mims back in scoring mode By Ira Schoffel In the first half of his team’s recent game against Florida State, La Salle men’s basketball coach Dr. John Giannini saw the Ralph Mims that Florida State fans watched for most of the senior guard’s first three collegiate seasons.Mims played well on defense and handled the ball well, but he had attempted only one shot from the field and had five points going into intermission.In the second half, Giannini saw the Ralph Mims that he remembered recruiting during his days as head coach at the University of Maine. The Ralph Mims that scored nearly 30 points a game and won the state’s Mr. Basketball title. Read more
