Seminole pride and community are an essential part of what establishes FloridaStateUniversity as such a magnificent institution. It is with this same pride and sense of community that Burning Spear and the TRUE Seminole campaign bring you this year’s FSU Spirit Drum Tour. As part of this partnership, the Spirit Drum will be present at every home football game two hours prior to kick off.

The Spirit Drum has received nationally-recognized acclaim as one of the most prominent Seminole traditions. In 1993, Burning Spear reignited the legacy of beating the Spirit Drum for 72 hours prior to the FSU v. Miami football game to give the FSU community a way to participate in promoting Seminole pride. This was the same season as the successful Heisman campaign for Charlie Ward. Ever since, the Spirit Drum makes its annual appearance at the FSU v. Miami and FSU v. UF football games. It is said that our rival teams can hear the drum, and sense our spirit, from miles away.

This year, the Spirit Drum is located in front of the Seminole Tribe Statue at Gate K in front of Doak Campbell Stadium. We are excited about this new location, as it is a central gathering place for the Marching Chiefs prior to kickoff. Alumni, students, student organizations, and all other Seminoles in the Florida State community participate in beating the drum and showing their TRUE pride. Stop by when walking into the stadium and share your TRUE Seminole pride with us!
